What is the difference between a converter and an inverter?

Unlike inverters, which change Direct Current (DC) into Alternating Current (AC), converters typically transform the voltage level but maintain the same current. For instance, in RVs or cars where the battery supplies DC power, a converter is used to lower the voltage to operate devices that require less power, like phones or small appliances.

How much power does an inverter need?

In your case, it could be something like 200W (allowing for ~90% inverter efficiency, normal for a modern inverter). On the other hand, the inverter output stages need to be engineered for the "apparent" power that may be higher than the "real" power of the load.

Should an inverter dissipate power?

If an inverter is only intended to deal with loads that will never push much power back at it, having it dissipate any such power that is pushed back may be cheaper and easier than having it either store such power until the next cycle or return it to the source.

What are the different types of solar inverters?

String Inverters: The most common type, string inverters, are cost-effective and work by connecting multiple solar panels in a “string,” converting the collective DC output of these panels into AC power. Micro Inverters: Attached to individual solar panels, micro-inverters convert DC to AC at each panel.
