What is a containerised generator set?

On a regular basis, containerised generator sets (CGS) are placed on board ships to provide replacement power in case of a damage to one of the ship's generator sets, or additional power, e.g. to provide power to extra deck equipment or reefer containers. There are currently no clear rules and requirements for such time limited installations.

How far apart should a generator be from a wall?

The general rule-of-thumb is to leave 5 feet between generators and between a generator and other equipment, walls, or obstructions. AHJ’s recommend that a system installer maintain the 5 foot separation wherever possible and only rely on the exceptions when absolutely necessary for a particular installation.
