How should a battery room be designed?

Battery rooms shall be designed with an adequate exhaust system which provides for continuous ventilation of the battery room to prohibit the build-up of potentially explosive hydrogen gas. During normal operations, off gassing of the batteries is relatively small.

Should a battery room be used as a storeroom?

Battery rooms should not be used as storerooms, particularly for storing combustible or flammable materials. Battery rooms and the workplaces should always be kept clean, tidy and dry. Rubbish and waste produced should be removed regularly. Personal belongings of the workers should be kept in lockers instead of being scattered around the workplace.

Can a battery room be ventilated?

C.4.4 Ventilated rooms with battery charging power more than 2 kW Batteries exceeding charging power of 2 kW shall be installed in closed cabinets, containers or battery rooms forced ventilated to open deck area. Lead batteries up to 3 kW may be ventilated by natural means. Battery rooms shall be arranged according to C.3.

How should a battery room be lit?

The area of installation work should be well lit with an illumination level suitable for the specific work task. Battery rooms should not be used as storerooms, particularly for storing combustible or flammable materials. Battery rooms and the workplaces should always be kept clean, tidy and dry.
