What is UHV power transmission?

UHV power transmission refers to the power transmission technology with voltage levels of AC 1000 kV and above, and DC ± 800 kV and above.

First, the research and development of UHV transmission technology should continue to advance, particularly in terms of transmission frequency, transmission capacity, and system stability, to enhance the overall transmission capacity and stability of the power grid.

How many UHV power transmission lines are there?

Other countries may have different thresholds. China commissioned the first such power transmission line in 2008. As of March 2025, 42 UHV power transmission lines were operating, half of which with AC and half with DC.
