Large-scale ESSs must include physical security technologies to protect them from adversarial actions that could damage or disable the equipment.

A combination of fire barrier systems and firewalls may be necessary in energy storage applications. Fire barriers help manage localized risks within storage areas, while firewalls create larger divisions within a facility.
